An outline of how recent updates to TLS impact your Portal products.

What is TLS?

TLS stands for Transport Layer Security and is used to cryptographically secure internet communications. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_Layer_Security for more information.

Why are we talking about TLS now?

An announcement by the PCI Security Standards Council requires that all credit card transactions use a modern (more secure) version of TLS by June 30, 2018. As a result, TLS version 1.2 has become more common, and so changes to some software components are required to support TLS 1.2.

How does this TLS update impact…

  • Customer Portal? See below.
  • Employee Portal? The base version of Employee Portal is not affected by this change. Note, this excludes customizations that rely on TLS.
  • Vendor Portal? The base version of Vendor Portal is not affected by this change. Note, this excludes customizations that rely on TLS.
  • Interconnect? The base version of Workflow Portal for Interconnect is not affected by this change. Note, this excludes customizations that rely on TLS.

Customer Portal

How does this TLS update affect Customer Portal? If the portal has been configured to accept payments, TLS may be used to secure the transaction, which will be affected by the recent TLS updates. Depending on the version of Customer Portal installed, a hotfix may be required to ensure compatibility.

Should I contact support for a hotfix to Customer Portal?

  • If you accept payments online and are on version 92.5 or lower, then yes, a patch is required to ensure TLS compatibility.
  • If you do not accept payments and have no customizations, then no action is necessary.
  • If you have customizations, work with your Vision33 consultant to ensure all TLS requirements for secure transactions are met.
